Daily Quality Time with God

Appointment for Quality Time

Schedule a time that is good for you to be alone with God. Give God your best so plan quality time with Him when you’re at your best. You maybe a night owl like me, but Mark 1:35 says that Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed NIV. When you wake up in the middle of the night, don’t waste that special time PRAY! Have you ever though maybe God woke you up at night to spend quality time with you? No telephones ringing, no favorite program to catch, one to interrupt your special time with the Lord because everybody else is asleep. So will you give God your undivided attention? You should spend as much time with God as you can each day. 1 Thess 5:17 tells us to pray continually NIV.

Amount of Quality Time

You decide on the amount of time. If you start with 15 minutes a day you can work your way up to the quantity of time you desire or need with God. But “Don’t watch the clock – set the clock.” It’s the quality of the time you spend with God that makes the difference.

Agenda for Quality Time

You may already have a plan that works for growing in intimacy with God, if it works for you use it. But this is a simplified plan inspired by “Rick Warren’s Bible Study Methods.” Of course I added my time tested suggestions to his wonderful guide for spending regular quality time with God. First you need three things:

  • You need a Bible – King James Version is the most widely used Version of the Bible but it is quite difficult to understand. I suggest my students of the Bible get a “New International Version Study Bible.”

  • Dedicate s special notebook/journal for this quiet time – Write down fresh insight the Lord gives you these morsels of information are invaluable. You can also create a prayer list and add to it regularly.

  • Gather a variety of inspirational worship music. I find that an assortment makes this time more exciting. (but sometimes I don’t use any music at all it’s up to you and the Lord)

There are seven points to this plan:

  1. Relax – Be still before God. Let quietness clear away the thoughts that try to rush your mind during your prayer time. (Suggestion: Make a “Flood List” write down all the thoughts that want to flood your mind)

  2. Request – Pray and ask God to give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. Pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, Eph 1:17, 18

  3. Read – Read a scripture. This is where your conversation with God starts. He speaks to you through His Word, and you speak to him in prayer.

    1. Read something of interest to you. (Try a Psalm i.e. 23, 27, 34, 46, 63, 66, 67, 68, 71, 75, 84, 86, 91)

    2. Use the Scripture from a devotional book

    3. Read over the text you are currently studying

  4. Reflect and Remember –Seriously think over (meditate on) what you have read. Memorize verses that speak to you and your situation.

  5. Record – When God speaks to you through His Word write it down in your journal! How awesome it is when the God who created you says something to you! Or should I say when you hear what He’s saying to you. You don’t want to forget God’s words to you. They will help you live a more abundant life.

  6. Request – Have your time of prayer after God has spoken to you through His Word. Go ahead and ask Him whatever you like. This is your time with your God. Remember to pray for your “Flood List”

  7. Relax – After you have finished talking, it’s time for you to relax. Be quiet for a short while and wait on God. Sit lay, stand in silence and listen for that still small voice within. The Holy Spirit will speak to your heart. Peacefully wait for a word, a phrase, a picture image that will let you know that His Spirit is right there with you. To comfort, to counsel and sometimes even to convict you toward the right choices.

 Attitude of Quality Time

1.   Go after God with all your heart (Psalm 63:1, 42:1) and expect to have a delightful time of fellowship that will bless you and Him each and every time you come into His presence.

2.   There you have it. Now set started! Don’t fall into a mechanical rut trying to follow this plan to the letter. Variety is the spice of life!

If you have difficulty understanding something that you study, ask your spiritual advisor (Pastor, Minister etc.) of course I am more than willing to assist you just send me an email.

When you see God working things out, please share your testimony with me. Also let me know if you need us to join in with you for other matters of corporate prayer (combined efforts of intercessory prayer). There is strength in numbers. Don’t forget pray!

I pray that God, will draw you all the more closer to Himself and you will know the truth. The truth that will set you free! May God Bless and keep you In Jesus Name. AMEN!

Love, Pastor Sheila R. Wallace
